We are constantly looking at ways to reduce our impact on the Earth and to make a positive difference wherever we can – whether at our head office, through collaborative partnerships, in the sphere of health and wellness, or in the home of rooibos tea itself: the Cederberg.

red espresso® was selected by CANSA (Cancer Association of South Africa), an NGO committed to fighting cancer, as a “smart choice” for consumers to purchase owing to its multiple health benefits linked to preventing cancer. As a corporate social partner of CANSA, we donate a portion of our income to the organization every year. These proceeds help CANSA with all the work they do to help those affected by cancer.

Ground Up

This is not just a cup of coffee. This is a cup of hope. By partnering with the unemployed and training them to be professional baristas, we change lives from the Ground UP. red espresso® is a proud sponsor of the Ground UP Project (a Learn to Earn initiative) which, in its first year of operating, had 51 unemployed people register for their 8 week programme, with 45 of them completing their training. The majority of them are already employed across the coffee and hospitality industries.

The Red Cedar Project

We support the red cedar project which is committed to saving the highly endangered Clanwilliam Cedar tree in the Cederberg (after which the area was name), which is on the Global Red Data list for a species facing extinction. By planting 1000 Cedar trees into the Cederberg every year since 2010, we are committed to preserving and restoring the home of our special rooibos tea.

Our honey is badger-friendly meaning that we practice badger-friendly beekeeping. To receive badger friendly status, our beekeepers are audited by field officers from the Endangered Wildlife Trust.

Being Green

Wherever we can, we do our best to reduce our impact on Earth. Our head office and factory has been designed to be energy efficient. It is insulated with building blocks that keep the temperature comfortable without the use of excessive air conditioning. Installation of solar power energy efficient systems also reduce our electrical usage. The installation of rain water catchment systems also minimizes municipal water supply for sewage and irrigation purposes.
